Bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics laugh at people who do not believe in evolution. Evolution proves that the ability of any living thing to cope with environmental pressures and the survival is the survival of the fittest.
Antibiotics are an environmental stressor that causes a mutation inside a bacterium that forces it to live better in that environment and those who fail to do so perish. This mutation goes from generation to generation.
Now the question is, why do bacteria evolve so fast?
The generation time of bacteria is very short and fast. In just half an hour, many of their offsprings are born. As many bacteria are produced in a few days as human beings are born in a thousand years. This means that the change that we get against a single liquid element in a thousand years, a bacterium can achieve the same change in a few days. That is the reason for their rapid evolution and it is a proof of natural selection.
Now another question is why no new species are emerging from bacteria?
So the answer is bacteria, which are single-celled organisms, do not have enough time to form a multicellular organism. The first unicellular organism came into being three and a half billion years ago today, but after a continuous struggle of one billion years, some of its cells evolved from which multi-celled organisms came into being.
Now, if you continue to strengthen the bacteria by giving them antibiotics for millions of years, then they will be able to become a living thing that will not be able to suffer from any of the diseases that exist at that time. But in just a few hundred years, they have evolved to the point that many bacteria today are completely immune to the common antibiotics that were used decades ago and develop such abilities. It has no effect on them.
Pakistan currently has the strangest typhoid in the world. We call it XDR. This typhoid has evolved so much that it is no longer affected by common antibiotics. For this a special medicine was made which is known as Azithromycin. The typhoid started in Hyderabad and Karachi and was later reported in the rest of the world.
This will give you an idea of how bacteria evolve and become stronger than ever.
