The historical facts are: When the development of science and technology was in the hands of the Muslims and they were firmly committed to Islam in their beliefs and actions, Allah gave them dominance in the world, but as they remained behind in the field of knowledge. Gone, their decline accelerated. Islam is a great contributor to the development of science and technology and knowledge. Secularism is only the pursuit of material interests and the removal of religion from individual and collective life. In Islam, the importance of religious education is undoubtedly the highest, but Islam does not only teach modern sciences, but it is its motivation. The following historical facts are a clear proof that Islam is the guarantor of progress and success in both material and spiritual life.
Franz Rosenthal, a famous and popular historian among Western Orientalists, writes under "Knowledge and Muslims": "Those who make a lot of noise about the modern development of Europe" should know that the European Renaissance (Renaissance) It became possible when Europe benefited from Muslim inventions in science and sciences from the 13th to the 16th century. In the history of the world, no culture or civilization was more advanced than the Muslims in the acquisition of knowledge, promotion of knowledge and communication during the time of the rise of Muslims. Then he summed up his position in these words: "In the life of Muslims, understanding, religion, politics and society, there was no such area that a common Muslim could not gain knowledge even in daily life. Don't be too interested in protecting it" until it became the practice of every Muslim to give priority to knowledge above everything else in life "even knowledge and Islam became synonymous" (Knowledge Triumphant: Concept of Knowledge). In Medieval Islam, P: 2)
Therefore, it is not correct to say that the development of science and technology and secularism are necessary. Islam is the source of science and research. Islam is the religion that began with the command to read in the first word of the first revelation (Al-Alaq: 1). The Holy Qur'an described the salient attributes of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, that he taught the Book and wisdom along with the recitation of the divine verses and self-purification (Al-Imran: 164). Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) traveled a long way to meet Hazrat Khizar and his purpose was to know the "ilm al-asrar'', i. e. , the inner wisdom hidden behind the outward commands. The attribute that Allah Almighty gave to the first human, Hazrat Adam (AS) as the reason for his superiority over the angels, was knowledge, and some commentators have written: Allah Almighty gave Adam (AS) the knowledge of the things that exist on earth and for the survival of life.
Were necessary, this is what we refer to as worldly or contemporary knowledge. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Acquiring knowledge is obligatory on every Muslim" (Ibn Majah: 224). He also said: "Every word of wisdom is the lost inheritance of a believer, so he should get it wherever he finds it, because he is the rightful owner of it" (Tirmidhi: 2687). Wisdom is a very comprehensive word and philosophy is also called wisdom in our knowledge capital. Wisdom has one meaning: "to know the truth of something". The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Allah, His angels and the creatures of the earth and the heavens, even the ants in their burrows and the fishes (in the water), pray for mercy on the one who teaches people good. " (Tirmidhi: 2685) Allah The Almighty said: "And above every person with knowledge is another person with knowledge" (Yusuf: 76), meaning that the levels of evolution in knowledge never end.
Secularism, liberalism, scientific and technical sciences and development are not necessary, so it is wrong to understand that scientific and technical development is impossible without secularism. The purpose of science and technology is the ascension of all material sciences to achieve material development and physical comforts and luxuries, while religious sciences are related to material evolution as well as spiritual evolution. The meaning is 'Ladinity', so Islam and secularism are antithetical to each other.
Evolution in scientific sciences and technology is nowhere in conflict with Islam, nor are they opposed to Islam. The disbelievers of all ages have said: "Whatever is, this is the life of our world. " We die and live, and only the age destroys us, and indeed they do not know it. They are only conjectured. (Al-Jatiyyah: 24). (2) "That is the life of this world; we die and live, and we shall not be raised (again)" (Al-Mu'minun: 37). So, the differentiator in Islam and secularism is the belief in the hereafter and all the basic beliefs of Islam are worship, commands and ethics. Shaykh Saadi, bequeathing to his son, told the difference between wealth and talent (technology) that wealth can be taken away, can be destroyed, a calamity can befall on it, but talent is wealth itself, so the talented person is wherever he is. "Wealth will be at his feet" (Gulistan-i Saadi).
Therefore, it is delusional to consider secularism and scientific development as necessary and scientific development as anti-Islam, but secularism is certainly anti-Islam. Muslims in their heyday brought science and knowledge to such heights that Western historians themselves had to acknowledge and praise it. It is written as follows: "If the Muslims had not taken astronomy to appreciable heights during its heyday, without it there would have been neither Copernicus nor Newton" (Page: 92) American historian John William Draper in his book "History of the Conflict between Religion & Science" writes: "In the field of literature, Muslims were so interested in every part and subject of it that this entertainment and mental thought He would have brought both to their heights. His proud progress in the field of science was that he did not rely on speculations without practical experience. Were Therefore, the experience and the observation of its result was acceptable to them. In contrast, the Greek philosophers were only satisfied with intellectual research. Therefore, the famous British historian and philosopher Bertrand Russell wrote about the Greeks: "The Greeks saw the world only through the eyes of poets and not through the eyes of scientists". (The Scientific Outlook, Page:2).
The oldest and first university in the world was built by a charitable Muslim woman, Fatima bint Muhammad al-Fahri, in Morocco in 245 A. H. Its name is Jamia Al-Qarawiyyin. The following are some examples of the outstanding achievements of the Muslims in the field of science and technology during their heyday: (1) The first university in Europe was built by the Muslims, and it was named the University of Salerno. Salerno University). (2) The discovery of gravity is attributed to Robert Newton, but in fact, at least five hundred years before Newton, a Muslim scientist and geographer, Sharif Al-Idrisi (died 494 AH/1111 AD), defined gravity in clear terms. I was: Translation: "The earth attracts the weight of bodies like a magnet attracts iron".
